i figured it out!!!

so...i frogged down to the ribbing and started working on the lace pattern and i actually figured out what i had done wrong very easily. i was making the final yo after the marker! that was it! i'm 6 rows into the lace pattern now and it's working up just fine.

thanks so much for all of the suggestions on what could have been the problem!!!

im glad you figured it out! its amazing that one stitch could cause so much trouble.

i made a mistake in my razor while i was about half way through, just wasnt paying attention, made an extra yarn over, noticed a couple of rows later. i sorted it out, but going back a few rows was an absolute nightmare.

i read an excellent piece of advice regarding mistakes when knitting lace patterns.

the suggestion was that every ten you should stop, examine your work so far, then on the next row knit together with a contrasting strand of something thin and slippery. That means if you make a mistake, you can unravel to this row really easily.

Then after the next ten rows, examine, if all is well, take out the strand and knit it into the next row.

I don't think this is toomuch hassle to do and i think it's worthwhile, because honestly unravelling work that contains decreases and increases is a bloody nightmare. one tiny mistake means you could lose inches of work if the unravelling goes mental.

ah, yes! a lifeline. the funny thing is, i'd thought about doing that after i finished the ribbing so that, if i managed to screw up the lace, i'd be able to frog it quickly and easily. so much for that, eh?
